Quality and Safety

Quality and safety are ensured by clear traceability from the farm to the final product

The New Zealand Blackcurrant Co-operative has developed a traceability system that ensures their customers receive quality New Zealand Blackcurrants each and every time.

Each of the New Zealand Blackcurrant Co-operatives growers is responsible for tracking every bin of blackcurrants harvested (350 to 500kg).

The grower’s name

The field block where the fruit grew

The harvest date

The variety of Blackcurrants

Weight

Bin number

All subsequent processes – from fruit acceptance by the Co-operative of only the best fruit to processing – is recorded. This makes it possible to trace where the fruit from each grower goes and to easily learn where the ingredients for each product originate.  This means that any manufacturer in the world can know from what field in New Zealand their Blackcurrants came, when it was harvested, and how it has been processed.

Growers must also record and submit accurate records of any pesticides or fertilizers that may be used during the complete growing cycle of the berries. This information can also be determined by the manufacturer.

Quality and Safety are the Highest Priority and the Commitment of the New Zealand Blackcurrant Co-operative

All of the growers that supply Blackcurrants to the New Zealand Blackcurrant Co-operative follow the traceability guidelines established by the Co-operative.
